Passion Fruit Mojito

People as Cocktails, pt 3, SHAKIRA

Mojito de Maracuyá (Passion Fruit Mojito)

Since Shakira doesn’t drink alcohol, I wanted to make a cocktail that tasted just as good without the alcohol as it does with it, and this passion fruit mojito delivers on all fronts. Juicy passionfruit and fresh mint combine for an incredibly refreshing cocktail you will love!

Serves 1.

Ingredients:

For the Passion Fruit Mojito:

  • 2-3oz aguardiente* or rum (optional - omit for mocktail)

  • 2oz passionfruit juice

  • 1 passionfruit (sub for 2 tbsps passion fruit puree or more juice)

  • Juice from 1 lime

  • 4 mint leaves (+ more for topping)

  • 2 tsps packed brown sugar

  • Club soda

  • Ice

*Aguardiente is one of the most popular drinks in Colombia, translating literally to “fiery water”, an anise flavored drink sweetened with sugar cane. It can be a bit hard to find, so feel free to use rum or leave it out altogether for a mocktail!

Directions:

For the Passion Fruit Mojito:

  • Add mint, brown sugar, and lime juice to the bottom of a cocktail glass and muddle to release the flavors of the mint. You can use a cocktail muddler or back of a spoon. You want to just bruise slightly, not break up the mint too much.

  • Add in the passionfruit juice, rum or aguardiente (if using), and passionfruit puree and stir until sugar has dissolved.

  • Fill the glass with ice and top with club soda. Serve with another mint sprig and enjoy!
